WHAT YOU FOCUS ON GROWS

Are you starting to lose patience with the whole lockdown situation?

Are you done with it now?

I think we’re all feeling that at times right now. Even those of us that have seen unexpected benefits of the lockdown are having days when we feel the limitations of our current situation.
However, it’s important to remember one of the most fundamental rules of emotional self-management... what we focus on grows.

Our point of conscious focus acts like a magnifying glass on any situation. It appears larger and larger in our perception the longer we put our focus on it.

If we choose to focus on the things in our life that we have no control of (and there are a lot of them right now) then we will start to convince ourselves that we are out of control of EVERYTHING. Our perception will fill up with all the things we have no control over... and we will feel out of control of life in general.

That outlook creates anxiety.

If we deliberately choose to ignore the things we have no control over and instead choose to focus on the things we DO have control over then we very quickly start to feel in control of life in general.

That outlook reduces anxiety.

This means that even in the current global pandemic we can choose to feel in control of life simply by focusing on controlling ourself.

Yes, of course we are invested in the outside world, and yes there are bound to be aspects of what is going on right now that upset and frustrate us, but it’s important we don’t lose ourselves in the things that are out of our control.

Limit your time, focus and emotional energy on those things and live YOUR life.
