It’s no secret that talking to someone can be incredibly therapeutic when it comes to anxiety.
There are some really good reasons why.
Firstly when we start to question the way we feel and recognise that our responses are getting out of our control there can be a big fear that there is something wrong with us.
When we share the way we feel and the person we are talking to doesn’t run for the hills it can be a huge weight lifted from our shoulders. Feeling anxious is one thing, but feeling like we might be mad for feeling it is a burden we shouldn’t have to carry.
If we’re feeling anxious it’s ok to share that truth... because it turns out... we all are!!
Anxiety means we’re alive... not broken.
Secondly, thoughts don’t exist in our mind to be kept secret.
Stifling and denying our thoughts is how they end up doing us damage and getting confused and exaggerated. If a part of you is trying to be heard then give it a voice... or it may start to try and shout at you.
Often times our thoughts only start to make sense and receive structure when we start to explain them to someone. That’s when we add our logical side to the equation and it might even be the first time these thoughts actually make sense to ourselves!
Lastly, reaching out is a good thing. It never hurts to find out that people care and that you are not on your own.
If you care enough about yourself to tell someone how you feel, they just might care enough about you to listen.
So do yourself a favour and talk to someone.
This is not fight club... you’re allowed to talk about it.
