CONFIDENCE ISN’T WHAT YOU THINK

Whilst confidence might be something that most of us would like more of, it isn’t something we need to attempt to grow from scratch. That’s because we were all born pretty much 100% confident.

When we started out in life we didn’t have any hang ups or insecurities and as such had no reason to doubt our abilities to cope with any situation life might care to throw at us.

We didn’t question ourself in those early years because nobody had yet suggested there was anything wrong with us.

All that sort of thinking came later.

For some of us it happened so early on in life that we can’t even remember ever feeling confident.

So confidence is best regarded not as something that needs to be discovered for the first time, but as the absence of insecurities.

Put simply without our hang ups and insecurities we would naturally have all the confidence we could possibly desire.

So how do we get rid of those hang ups?

Well it might be simpler than you think.

Whilst it may have been others who gave us those hang ups, all they could actually do was plant the seed. In that respect their input lasted a moment.

The person that watered that seed and made that idea grow was ourself.
Simply by accepting negative comments and experiences as telling us something bad yet true about ourself we have taken that version of reality and run with it.

It’s the constant repeating of this reality to ourself that perpetuates it.
If we’re going to challenge that version of reality and allow ourselves the freedom to update our self image, we first have to stop repeating that message, believing that idea is true and regarding that version of ourself as real.

The fact is confidence flows freely when we stop stifling its natural growth with negative thoughts that weren’t ours in the first place.
